All Christians are called to be servants. Deacons are simply Christian servants that have been appointed to a particular role of service within the congregation. The term “deacon” is translated from a Greek word which means “servant.” Their work and responsibilities are important to the growth and work of the church. The specific “office of a deacon” is identified in 1 Timothy 3:10-13. An outline of qualifications is given to instruct the church about the type of men needed (Acts 6:3; 1 Tim. 3:8-10).
At the Margaret Street church of Christ, we are blessed to have these great Christian men who love the Lord and are willing and able to serve. Most of them have met the qualifications of a deacon and have been named as deacons over specific works. We also have a few areas of work that are under the oversight of the elders and deacons that are assisted by a ministry contact.
